what is your why

Everyone has a reason to live a healthier, longer life. What’s yours?

Jill’s Why

My dad passed away five years ago at the young age of 67 due to congestive heart failure. He dealt with type 2 diabetes for 27 years of his life. I wish that 27 years ago, and even long before then, the concept of taking care of our overall wellbeing would have been a greater presence in his life.

My dad worked long hours as a small-town banker for 42 years of his life to support our large family of nine, which I am truly grateful for. However, I often wish there had been a greater presence of employee wellbeing at his worksite, encouraging him to engage in healthy habits like taking a walk or mental wellbeing break, using his vacation to practice restoration, and focusing on sleep and better nutrition. I believe the power of influence we have on one another is greater during the time we spend at work versus outside of work.

My dad fuels my passion to live a healthy lifestyle and to help people live a longer, healthier life.

Jill Duevel

"I use the personal encounters of heart disease in my life to drive change and awareness in the environment I spend the most time in — the workplace."

Jill Duevel has served as the co-chair of the AHA’s Worksite Wellness Committee for 3 years. Her spirited approach to employee wellbeing and natural ability to connect with others has been an invaluable asset to the AHA’s Workplace Health Solutions program launch. In addition to her work promoting wellness in the workplace and educating her peers on the AHA’s heart-healthy resources, Jill has also dedicated herself to planning the annual Worksite Wellness Symposium event. Her leadership on this sub-committee made it possible to educate and inspire wellness advocates in businesses throughout our community to improve their organizational culture and help make the healthy choice the easy choice.
