An internship with HealthSource Solutions gives students a chance to grow...every day!

Internships are more than just a stepping stone — they’re opportunities to explore career paths, build confidence, and gain real-world experience. At HealthSource Solutions, interns are immersed in meaningful projects, supported by a welcoming team, and given the chance to discover the many facets of worksite wellness. In this Q&A, we sit down with Kelly Armijos, a 2025 HealthSource Solutions summer intern, to learn about her journey as an intern, from first-day nerves to proud accomplishments.

Q: What drew you to apply for this internship?
A: Worksite wellness was an unfamiliar sector of healthcare for me. After reviewing the HealthSource Solutions website and reading about their mission (and the fact that it’s woman-owned!), I knew this was something I wanted to learn more about.

Q: What were your expectations before starting, and how did they compare to reality?
A: I didn’t have many expectations going in, but I was not expecting to feel so welcomed, included, and supported. I’ve never felt more set up for success than I did at HealthSource Solutions. My internship gave me exposure to so many experiences — fitness site visits, biometric screening events, product development, sales, and marketing.

Q: How did you feel on your first day?
A: I was excited but nervous. Thankfully, the team was so kind and welcoming that I quickly felt at ease. Like any intern, I was taking in a lot — client meetings, information, processes — but the excitement made me eager to learn quickly.

Q: What kind of projects or tasks did you work on?
A:

  • Building sections and challenges in client portals
  • Creating and updating program designs for portal builds
  • Developing program content (hydration tip sheets, Every Step Counts leaderboard, Infused Water Bar info slides)
  • Branding communications
  • Reporting

Q: Which project was your favorite, and why?
A: My capstone project with a mock client was my favorite. I managed everything from implementation to the end, experiencing nearly every step for a Wellness Program Management + Portal client. It allowed me to apply what I learned through tasks and see how all the pieces fit together.

Q: What new skills did you learn during your internship?
A: I greatly improved my communication and professionalism. In undergrad, you get some practice with professors, but that doesn’t compare to a workplace environment. This internship has helped me become more confident in professional communication, and I feel more prepared for the “real world.”

Q: What’s your favorite memory with your coworkers?
A: The worksite team golf outing at a par-3 course! It was a great way to spend time with the team outside of the office, meet remote coworkers, and connect with everyone while having fun.

Q: What was the most challenging part of your internship?
A: At first, I hesitated to ask questions, thinking they weren’t worth asking. I quickly realized it’s always better to ask for help right away—no question is a bad one.

Q: How did you overcome that challenge?
A: By communicating openly with my supervisor and team. I learned that asking even a “simple” question could save a lot of time and keep me moving forward.

Q: What are you most proud of achieving during your time here?
A: I’m proud that I stayed open-minded and explored all the different HealthSource Solutions career pathways while building meaningful connections along the way.

Q: How do you think this internship will influence your career path?
A: It introduced me to worksite wellness as a viable and exciting career path that I plan to pursue in my job search.

Q: What advice would you give to the next intern?
A: Build strong connections with the team and don’t hesitate to ask for help or clarification.

Q: Do you have a behind-the-scenes or funny memory you’ll always remember?
A: Meeting all the dogs that come into the office!

Q: If you had to describe your internship in three words, what would they be?
A: Fun, Engaging, Memorable
